Along the lake in Bay Ridges and Rosebank the soil is heavy clay and the wind is real. We build lower, wider seating walls there and give every patio a drain path so water never sits.

Fixing patio stones on sand

A lot of Pickering backyards have 24 by 24 concrete patio stones laid on sand with no base. They rock, sink and grow weeds. We remove them, build a 6 to 8 inch compacted base, and lay modern slabs or pavers with polymeric joints so the patio stays flat and clean.

Front-of-house, the usual project is a paver walk and landing plus a driveway border, a two-day job that updates the whole face of the house.
